Thanks for visiting our new website.
We are currently planning our trip to
Cambodia for December 2007.
In preliminary planning - we are considering
a base in Bangkok
and making a side trip to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap for Angkor Wat.
If you have any recommendations, please
contact
rholm@caribbeanconsulting.com
We have requested a tour itinerary from an
online gay travel agency that specializes in Cambodia.
Purple Dragon
has been very helpful in the planning stages - made six months before
the trip.
As they note on their website, their prices are slightly higher than you
may find
if you try to piece the same tours together by yourself.
But one lesson that we've discovered in years of travel
is that a good travel agent who knows
a remote destination is critical.

page)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The itinerary we decided on uses the
Shinta Mani Hotel which is a little more expensive but is part
of a hospitality institute that trains local students and also
participates in extensive community outreach work:
ESSENTIAL ANGKOR Purple Dragon Cambodia tour package
24 December 2007: Two days and two nights in
Siem Reap/Angkor Wat, Cambodia
Double basis, Shinta Mani hotel at $331 per person = $662
Plus one extra night at $137
Details:

We also plan on adding an additional tour
from their selection of Fresh Ideas Side Trips:
Phnom
Kulen/River of 1000 Lingas at $195 for two guests
The real shock was the airfare from Bangkok
to Siem Reap on
Bangkok Air
The lowest airfares are about $350 per
person for the one hour flight.
But after seeing the latest article in The
New York Times
Capturing Angkor before Tourism Works Its Change
we decided it was worth the investment to visit now
before the ruins are taken over by mass tourism.
If you're looking for a less expensive value
hotel - consider the
Steung Siem Reap Hotel
which has a great location near Pub Street and all the restaurants/bars.
If you want luxury - consider the Shinta
Mani's sister hotel -
Hotel de la Paix
